Vivaldi Bassoon Concerto RV495
Ireland Sextet
Beethoven Septet Op. 20
Based in London this mixed ensemble was formed by clarinettist Poppy Beddoe whilst at the Royal Academy of Music and was created to follow the instrumentation of Schubert’s Octet drawing together a virtuosic line-up of individual performers. The ensemble has flourished in the last few years with concerts all over the UK and in France, expanding and contracting in size to meet the needs of a very varied repertoire.
In this concert they perform a rarity of the chamber music repertoire in the Ireland Sextet, written in 1898 while he was a student at the Royal Academy of Music, alongside a transcription of a Vivaldi’s ever popular bassoon concerto. Beethoven’s Septet represents a divertimento-like work which is innovative and unusual and was premiered alongside his 1st Symphony – a piece so popular that it was transformed into many different arrangements.
