This ensemble of oboe, bassoon and piano continues the exploration of wind repertoire this season and brings two contrasting works which show off the colourful variety and versatile sonorities of these three instruments. Poulenc’s ever- popular trio written in 1926 and dedicated to Manuel de Falla is a substantial work at times wistful, at times exuberant. André Previn’s trio written in 1994 is full of contrasts, deftly mixing melancholic melody with jazzy up-tempo music.
