The Callanan Wind Ensemble is joined by Faversham Music Club chair, David Knotts, for a programme of music for piano and wind instruments. Alongside Mozart’s quintet for piano and wind instruments, the group perform some musical rarities by the French composer, Vincent d’Indy and the Venezuelan-born French composer, Reynaldo Hahn. At the heart of this programme is a new work, composed especially for this concert by John Cooney who will also be talking about his new piece in conversation with Alasdair Nicolson. John Cooney writes:
“When I began thinking about this piece the idea of landscape came quickly to mind. Knowing that the first performance would take place in Kent, a place I hold dear, my first thought was to try to reflect in the piece something of the rich and wonderfully varied Kent landscape.”
